I do NOT sell supplements. I believe it's a conflict of interest for a doctor to do so. There are some products I believe
are of definite value, some I think show promise, and some I'm just not that crazy about. Here are three columns that stratify
my feelings about some supplements. Click on the name of the supplement for in depth information. Click on "typical
product" if you are interested buying online or from a local drug store. Straightforward, unbiased information
about supplements is also available through the following link:
To illustrate an example of why a supplement may be chosen for the column "you may not want to bother," I'd like to point
out red yeast rice. Red yeast rice effectively lowers cholesterol, and there's a good reason for that -- it's
active ingredient is lovastatin, the first prescription "statin" medication that many people who advocate only natural therapies
choose to avoid. Since a 2.4 gram daily dose of red yeast rice has 7.2 mg of lovastatin, a lower dose than available
by prescription, and in a form that clinically is inferior to other statins, "why bother?"
