In 1999, my wife Jodi donated a portion of her liver to the 1 year-old daughter of a childhood friend of hers. Joanna
Sellman was born with biliary atresia, and she was going to die without a liver transplant. Her mother Kerri has severe asthma
and was a poor surgical candidate. Her father Mark has the wrong blood-type. Her aunt Terri has a liver blood vessel that
was too small. Jodi has the right blood type and found that her liver blood vessel was the right size. Jodi said she would
have felt terrible if she didn't give young Joanna a chance. Today, Joanna is 11 years old and doing great!
